Estimator

5 jobs · updated 2026-09-12

At a $5–10M GC there is usually one of you, maybe two, and every bid competes with the last one for your hours. AI agents are furthest along here of any role on this site — not because they estimate, but because they do the mechanical first pass that estimating sits on top of.

What holds today: agents can produce a first-pass quantity takeoff from a drawing set, cluster and normalize subcontractor quotes, and flag scope gaps between quote and spec section. What does not hold: judgment about means and methods, local sub pricing, or what a plan detail implies that the drawing doesn’t say. Every job page below draws that line explicitly — where the agent stops and the estimator starts.

The honest framing for this role is leverage, not replacement. If the first pass drops from days to hours, the estimator’s week moves to the bids that were previously left on the table.

  • Agent drafts addenda acknowledgment checklist + structured impact log from uploaded Addendum PDFs, invitation/Instructions, and prior takeoff/leveling/scope-gap/proposal notes; estimator owns which addenda apply, every incorporate-or-not call, every price/quantity revision, bid-form acknowledgment, and submit.

  • Agent drafts bid cover letter, inclusions/exclusions summary, and proposal narrative from invitation, addenda, leveled quotes, and scope-gap notes; estimator owns every price, alternate, exclusion, and submit.

  • Walk issued specs and drawings against takeoff and sub quotes, flag holes; estimator owns every hole before bid or award.

  • A first-pass takeoff in hours instead of days, with the estimator reviewing and correcting rather than clicking every wall. Buy, build, or both — the workflow, pilot plan, and QA rules.
